A historic public institution dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, and national heritage since the early 20th century.
Yadanabon Zoological Gardens is one of Myanmar’s oldest and most significant public institutions. It serves as a center for animal care, conservation, education, and recreation, while preserving natural heritage for future generations.
A legacy built by public support and national pride.
In 1901, Yadanabon Zoological Gardens was founded with public funding amounting to 240,000 Kyats. The zoo was developed at its present location after clearing 61 acres of virgin land, reflecting strong public commitment to creating a national zoological garden.
On 25 January 1906, the zoo was formally opened and named Victoria Memorial Park and Zoological Gardens in honor of Queen Victoria. Over time, the zoo has evolved into a major center for conservation, education, and public recreation in Myanmar.
The wellbeing of animals is central to everything we do at Yadanabon Zoo.
Daily care, nutrition, enrichment, and veterinary support ensure animals remain healthy and active.
Naturalistic habitats are maintained to support animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
